Speakers Dave Hayward..Touching Up Our Roots When StoryCorps Atlanta thinks of its few “regulars,” Dave Hayward’s name is right at the top. Through his organization, Touching Up Our Roots: Georgia’s LGBT History Project Initiative, Dave is committed to capturing the stories of Atlanta’s sizable LGBTQ community, and he has recorded a whopping 14 conversations with StoryCorps Atlanta since we opened in October 2009. Dave describes Touching Up Our Roots as an LGBT history project that “preserves, promotes, and publicizes the contributions LGBT people have made, and make to, civil rights, civic and neighborhood organizations, and culture in Atlanta and in Georgia.” Equally important, he advocates the value of preserving these stories and exemplifies the StoryCorps mission, “to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives.”

Steve Cammett
Steve Cammett refuses to define himself by those descriptions
typically used in our capitalistic society. He prefers instead to follow the
example of his 34 year old son Joel who was once asked (as a very young man)
“what he does” by replying: “what I DO is to try and become a better person
each day.” So Steve defines himself as
follows: a proud son, brother, dad and papa who embraces life with an open
mind. Steve loves ALL of God’s children
and makes effort to live in peace with all who inhabit our planet. He has been divorced three times which
apparently disqualified him to be a Chick-fil-A Operator. In fact, his most successful relationship was
with a lesbian woman: he did her dishes and she had no expectations of
performance in the bedroom! LOL Steve has been in search of a “letter” since
last October. He doesn’t fit into any of the LGBTQ (etc.) categories, so he is
requesting that he be assigned the letter “A” (not as used in The Scarlet
Letter), identifying him only as an ALLY.

Dominique Huff Dominique Huff is the Founder and CEO of the Tenth Amendment Media Group (www.tenthamendmentmedia.com) and Founder/Executive Director of the South Fulton Business Coalition (www.southfultonbusiness.com). He has been in business since 2007. With the media outlets of TAMG, he believes that all sides and views of a story need to be told. The outlets are often the first and only to report on many matters in the community. With the SFBC, he wants to ensure that South Fulton's business and residential community are working together for economic development and economic growth. In terms of LGBT issues, Huff grew tired of the stereotypical talk shows that were promoted and geared towards the community. He vowed in 2007 that he would create an opportunity for LGBT people to have a radio show that keeps them informed, entertained and in the know. In 2009 during a business presentation to his interns, partners and radio personalities he unveiled a proposed LGBT show that was ultimately developed by Meak Productions into the now highly popular and acclaimed Same Gender Loving Expressions. As a heterosexual ally, Huff believes that Constitutional rights applies to everyone and he is doing his part to make sure that is not forgotten. He also credits Meak Productions as they serve as the LGBT liaisons for his businesses.
